Beautiful historic golf course that could easily be a wildlife sanctuary. The rates beyond fair and the customer service is excellent. It’s a challenging course for the most. Large trees keep the course tight and the greens are smaller then most newer courses. Don’t let the length fool you. Muddy in the winter so bring a towel, waterproof shoes and walk rather then ride.
This is my favorite course in Portland. It’s everything I want in a public golf course. I can take the MAX there, it’s an absolutely pleasant walk, and it holds two historical distinctions as the oldest municipal course in the city AND as the 2nd oldest course in the state. It has a double-decker driving range, which is a rarity for a central-city muni and the short range practice area is a decent size. I also so saw my first and, to date, only beaver since I moved to the Beaver State five years ago. The clubhouse is also sweet. It reminds me of a mini Timberline Lodge. If anyone is interested, the photo of the golf ball is one I found in my range bucket the other day. It’s a 1960s English-made ball back from when the US and UK had non-conforming ball sizes! *apologies to Eastmoreland, I had to take it!
You may be thinking to yourself, this review doesn’t mention any of the holes or merits of the course from a player’s perspective. That is because I play to a 27 handicap and my relationship to par is not the reason I enjoy or play golf. Intriguing architecture, history, a good walk, and the more sublime aspects of the game are what drive my passion. If any of these facts hold true for you, you will find value in this review.
The course overall is really fun, and challenging, the Greens are SPECTACULAR, smooth as a billiard table... KUDOS TO THE COURSE MAINTENANCE CREW, KUDOS TO A JOB WELL DONE🤙💪🙏 …
Played the front 9. Looks the same as last time and the parties we used to meet at the 6th green in the early 90s. Fun times aa always. My father had not been for a long time and used to go with his dad and grandpa back in the 50s and 60s.
This is a pretty low key place to go hit some balls. The employees are super nice. It isn't that expensive to go to the driving range. If I remember correctly, it was about 7$ for a medium bucket of balls. The actual course could use a little grooming, but overall a nice course. They have a pro shop, restaurant and bar.
Eastmoreland is a Portland landmark - no doubt. It’s a well laid out course with some fun and challenging holes, but could really use a serious overhaul.
In the fall/winter, EGC is not super playable as it has many low spots and poor drainage. In the summer, it gets trampled on, so the greens and fairways are in used shape.
The folks working here are nice and helpful, always have great things to say about them. It just needs a major facelift in the landscaping department: greens, drainage, etc.
Attractive parkland course. I played the front 9, which does not have all the water of the back nine. Trees are the main challenge. Little tall grass to lose your ball in, however a lot of shrubbery on the first couple of holes. Greens in late summer suffered from erratic pace. Pleasant and friendly experience, would like to play here again.
Great place to play. Well worth it. Just wish they had better yardage distance to the fairway cutting hazzards on the back 9. Drove straight into one at around 250-265 yards looked closer to 300 to hazzard on the map/scorecard. VERY FAST GREENS😯 …
